Frequently Asked Question’s
Can I use Private Medical Insurance to pay for my treatment?
SPC is registered with all the major health insurance companies. We do advise that you contact your insurance company prior to commencing treatment to ensure that your claim is processed properly.
Can I refer myself or do I need a letter from a doctor?
Self referral is accepted and encouraged although we always maintain contact with our medical colleagues. Some insurance policies do require a G.P referral so do check with your insurance provider.
What Qualifications will my Physiotherapist have?
All Physiotherapists at SPC have a degree or diploma in Physiotherapy and are registered with the Health Professions Council (the regulatory body) ensuring that they adhere to strict standards of care. Ongoing development of their skills is encouraged to ensure the highest standards. Some Physiotherapists have extra training in particular areas such as acupuncture.
How long are the appointments?
Each appointment lasts for approximately 40 minutes.
How Many Treatments will I need?
Treatment plans are tailored to the individual patient. You may require only one session for advice and self management or you may require a longer period of ongoing treatment dependent on the condition. There is no obligation to undertake a long course of treatment. Your Physiotherapist will discuss your treatment plan at your initial consultation.
What will happen at my appointment?
Initially the Physiotherapist will take a history of the condition; they will need to know of any other medical conditions and medication that you may be taking. They will also take details of your lifestyle such as your occupation or hobbies as these can all influence the cause of your symptoms and how you may recover. Following this they will conduct a thorough physical examination of the appropriate area to locate the problem. They will then discuss the nature of the problem and the best treatment options for that condition; they will then proceed with appropriate treatment as agreed between you.
Do I need to bring anything?
You do not need to bring anything specific but a pair of shorts may be useful if you have a lower limb problem. We advise that you wear loose comfortable clothing as you may be asked to undress to expose the problem area. If you are using private medical insurance we will require your policy number and claim/authorisation number.
